My oh my. I just find it so funny to watch ignorant (nice word for morons) people. Here is VA apparently we had the potential to have a small gas crisis because of the pipeline being shutdown from friday to sunday...in order to avoid major damage from Ike. Well. Gas distributors here were instructed to hike the price of gas SLIGHTLY to deter people from buying alot over the weekend....that way we could ride it out and not have a gas shortage over the weekend. WELL apparently the good citizens of VA heard otherwise and freaked out.
SO much so that ALL of the 3.77 gas has been completely bought up....and when we do get more gas in our county...which could be several days maybe longer...it will cost us more than 5.00 a gallon. Heh. Ironic huh..
Theres actually already a place in town thats selling it for that much...they hiked wayyy up on perpose to stop all of their gas from being drained.
They are now just about the only ones with any gas to speak of.
At every gas station I passed yesterday there were cars hanging out into the highways in line for gas. It was being rationed to 10 gallons per person. The wait was 1 hour.
I would love to hear "unambiguously J's " comment on this...also herb of grace..is this happening up there???

It's actually not happening around here. I hadn't heard anything about it, to tell the truth. Wow. I'm gonna try to figure out how to forward this post to J so he can comment. I bet he has heard about it. He stays "in the know" :)
I figured he had. I wouldent have been half as flustered about it...but the hustle and bustle was completely blocking traffic to most of downtown....just lines for gas! rediculious.
I actually hadn't heard about it. I noticed a small price jump here, but I haven't seen any shortages.
Any idea how long the shortages will last?
Well...I dunno what the difference is between here and there ...I guess people just didnt get wind of it. You guys probably wont have a shortage..since everyone just bought gas like normal...We have gas available here...but it is rediculiously high. It hit 5.00 a gallon but its coming back down slowly. Everything will probably be normal again by the weekend...i would think.
Come on, really? $5 a gallon? Dad did go right away to buy gas that weekend because some of those morons you mentioned told him that it(the gas)was gone indefinitely; might be a couple of weeks before we get any! And now we are going to have to pay $5 a gallon! That just SUCKS. To bad Dad is so gullible as to believe those idiots at BLC or True Value hardware or where ever it was he was hanging out at!!!!:(
Well...I would have bought it too..had not someone a little more in the know told me differently. I dont think hes gullible...just trying to do the right thing :) Either way...I was tempted to get some....but held off..because of the wait.
Classic supply and demand economics. If the supply is low, or people anticipate (correctly or incorrectly) that it will be, the price will go up.
For myself, if gas is normally $3.80 a gallon, and it goes up to $5.00 a gallon because people think the supply will be low for a while, it would be worth $12 ($1.20 increase x 10 gallons) to make sure I have a full tank of gas if it gets hard to come by in my area. Even if it goes down in a couple days, I'd be willing to pay $12 just for that feeling of security knowing my gas tank is full. Shoot, I've paid $12 for crappy movies that I didn't enjoy and immediately regretted wasting 2 hours of my life on. So $12 for a couple hours peace of mind is not so bad.
I'd also be willing to pay some dough for a dog, a shotgun, and Mel Gibson's haircut, just in case southern VA goes all Mad Max on me. ;)
LOL I luv luv mad max movies. Up untill he ate alpo. the it was wierd....im so glad you know what those are.....ive made more than a few mad max referances and got plenty of crazy looks
